Who can apply

Citizens of Chevening-eligible countries, including Ghana, with an undergraduate degree, the required work experience, and an intention to return home after study. Applicants apply directly to Chevening and separately to universities.

Chevening is the UK government's international scholarship programme, funding one-year taught master's degrees. It is aimed at people with demonstrated leadership potential who intend to return to their home country afterwards.

The two-track application

Chevening runs on a schedule of its own. You apply to Chevening, and you apply to universities, and the two are separate processes with separate deadlines. Applicants who treat them as one thing routinely miss a university deadline while waiting on a scholarship decision.

What the essays are actually testing

The written application asks about leadership, networking, a study plan and a career plan. Each is looking for specific evidence rather than ambition stated in general terms: what you did, what changed because you did it, and how the degree connects to what you intend to do next.

Deadlines and criteria are set by the awarding body and change between cycles. Always confirm on their own page before relying on anything here. Applying directly is free, and nobody needs to be paid to submit it for you.
